Knowledge and Skills:

Job Description – Health and Safety Officer

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the successful candidate will be required to:

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure compliance with the OHSA, COID Act, Environmental Regulations, and relevant SANS standards.

Conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and regular inspections across all departments.

Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, procedures, and systems.

Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, and compile detailed reports with corrective actions.

Maintain the company’s incident register and legally required documentation (e.g., Section 24 reports, IODs, registers).

Facilitate employee health and safety inductions and training programs.

Liaise with Department of Labour, external auditors, and other regulatory authorities.

Serve as chairperson of the Health & Safety Committee and coordinate monthly safety meetings.

Oversee the appointment and training of Safety Representatives, First Aiders, and Fire Marshals.

Ensure proper PPE issuance and monitor compliance with PPE usage.

Ensure fire equipment, signage, and emergency procedures are maintained and functional.

Conduct toolbox talks, emergency drills, and refresher training.
